Shelburne Craft School has received a Global Partnership Foundation Grant from the Japan Foundation of New York to establish a cross-cultural partnership with Nishiawakura, Japan — a forest village known for its deep roots in traditional craft and sustainable living.
The multi-year initiative will connect artists, educators, and students through workshops, public presentations, webinars, and a planned two-week residency in fall 2025. The project also includes a virtual visual story exchange between students in Shelburne and Nishiawakura, strengthening ties between the two communities through shared values of craft, land stewardship, and cultural preservation.
